Elon Musk’s influence is expanding into uncharted territory with Twitter

Elon Musk revolutionised the automobile industry before venturing into space travel. By seizing control of Twitter, the eccentric billionaire has gained unprecedented power.

Experts say he has inserted himself squarely in today’s global political conversation by using his fortune to secure such an important platform. “He is not just expressing views on a communication instrument; he now owns it and sets the policy for how that instrument will be used,” Jeffrey Winters, a Northwestern University expert on elites and oligarchs, told AFP. The question now is what he will do with that power, beginning with the hotly debated issue of whether Musk will allow former US President Donald Trump to return to the site.
