Google Play now offers UPI autopay for subscription-based purchases in India

Share via:

Google added UPI Autopay as a payment option for subscription-based purchases on Google Play in India, despite the ongoing controversy surrounding the company’s Play Store billing policy.

Customers can use any UPI application that supports the feature to make recurring payments with the help of UPI Autopay, which was introduced under UPI 2.0 by NPCI. Google stated that it hopes to grow local developers’ businesses on Google Play and to expand the convenience of UPI to subscription-based purchases with this move. The action was taken shortly after the Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined the company INR 936 crore for abusing its dominant position in regard to its Play Store policies.
