Build alternate lithium supply chains to curb imports from China: Ola CEO

Ola chief executive officer (CEO) Bhavish Aggarwal has called for building an alternate supply chain to curb the country’s increasing dependence on China for lithium.

In a blog post, Aggarwal advocated for localising lithium midstream processing by collaborating with other lithium-rich countries such as Australia, Chile, and Argentina. “China currently dominates lithium midstream processing. Electric vehicle adoption would increase India’s reliance on China, according to Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal. By the end of 2023, the EV startup hopes to have a cell manufacturing unit with a capacity of 5GWh operational.
