Karnataka High Court pulls Union Government over repeated adjournments: Centre vs Twitter

Share via:

The Karnataka High Court (HC) chastised the union government on Monday (January 9) for seeking multiple adjournments in a case involving the blocking of Twitter accounts and posts.

When the centre’s counsel requested an adjournment and a hearing date of January 27 or February 3, Justice Dixit made the incisive observation. Expressing displeasure with the numerous delays, Justice Dixit stated that the Court would grant the government a week’s time, citing the importance of the matter. The case has been scheduled for January 18. The petition filed by Twitter last year against ten blocking orders issued by the Centre between February 2021 and February 2022 is at the heart of the debate. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued directives to block certain information and suspend several other Twitter handles.
