Swiggy announced on Monday (April 3) that Dale Vaz has stepped down as its chief technology officer (CTO) and will take on an advisory role beginning in May 2023.

Swiggy hired Vaz, a University of Massachusetts Amherst alumnus, as its head of engineering and data science in 2018. In February 2020, he was appointed CTO.

“We confirm Dale Vaz has decided to leave Swiggy to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities,” a Swiggy spokesperson told Inc42. He will remain in his position until May 2023 and will be involved with Swiggy in an advisory capacity for an extended period of time. We sincerely thank him for his numerous contributions to Swiggy.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Vaz was the group CTO for Swiggy Food, Swiggy Instamart, Dineout, SuprDaily, Swiggy Genie, Minis, and meat and alcohol business lines at the foodtech unicorn.

Madhusudan Rao, Swiggy’s current senior vice president of consumer and fintech (engineering and product), will succeed Vaz as the food delivery company’s CTO.

“As CTO, Madhusudan Rao will take over.” Madhu has been with Swiggy for over four years and has decades of tech leadership experience, as well as a proven track record of understanding what our customers require, according to a Swiggy spokesperson.

Rao has also been with Swiggy since 2018, first as a vice president in charge of engineering at the foodtech’s storefront business before being promoted to his current position in April 2021.

The news comes just days after Karthik Gurumurthy, the head of Swiggy’s grocery delivery vertical, stepped down to take a sabbatical. Swiggy cofounder Phani Kishan Addepalli will take over as CEO of Instamart.
