Air India announced on Monday that it will be using cutting-edge technologies, including a ChatGPT-driven chatbot, as part of a $200 million investment to modernize its digital systems.

This move is part of the airline’s Vihaan.AI transformation programme, aimed at catching up with world-class airlines and eventually taking a leadership position in the industry.

The airline has already made significant progress in its digital transformation journey, with multiple initiatives already completed and many more in progress. Air India has invested heavily in new digital systems, digital engineering services, and creating an industry-leading digital workforce.

It expects to sustain this pace of investment over the next five years, with a focus on deploying the most cutting-edge technologies, ranging from traditional digital technologies to modern generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).

One of the most exciting initiatives is the deployment of a ChatGPT-driven chatbot, which will enhance customer engagement by providing quick and efficient responses to customer inquiries. The airline is also deploying new technology systems such as website and mobile app modernization, user-friendly customer notifications systems, in-flight entertainment system modernization, and a customer service portal with real-time customer support request tracking.

Additionally, Air India is exploring emerging trends such as the application of quantum computing to solve some of the most complex optimization challenges in the industry. Such systems will also be used for digital marketing, contact center modernization, disruption management, self-service re-accommodation, customer feedback, and analysis.

By leveraging these advanced technologies, Air India aims to provide a seamless and personalized customer experience, while also improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. As the airline industry becomes increasingly competitive, Air India’s investment in cutting-edge digital technologies will position it as a leader in the industry and provide a competitive advantage.
