A woman in Bengaluru was forced to jump off a Rapido bike after allegedly being sexually harassed by the driver. The incident took place on April 21, just a few minutes away from the bike taxi company’s headquarters in the city. The entire incident was captured on camera and has since gone viral on social media.

According to police officials, the victim had boarded the Rapido bike to reach a friend’s place in Indiranagar just before midnight. During the ride, the driver began sexually harassing the victim and even took her phone under the premise of getting the OTP. When the accused deviated from the set route, the victim questioned him, and he sped the bike. Sensing trouble, the woman jumped from the vehicle near BMS College in Yelahanka’s Nagenahalli. The accused allegedly fled the spot but was later apprehended by the police.

The victim reportedly suffered multiple minor injuries in the incident. After borrowing a mobile phone from a passerby, she alerted family and friends about the incident, and the police were informed. The police obtained CCTV footage of the incident and a preliminary probe revealed that the accused was inebriated at the time of the incident. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.

Meanwhile, the ride-hailing platform, Rapido, has launched an investigation into the matter. Inc42 has reached out to Rapido for a comment and will update the story when it is received. The clip of the incident has raised concerns over the safety of women passengers in ride-hailing platforms and has been widely shared on social media.
