Caryn Majorie, a 23-year-old influencer with a massive following on Snapchat and Instagram, has found a unique way to manage her relationships. With 1.8 million followers on Snapchat and 216K on Instagram, Majorie has over 1,000 “boyfriends.” However, these men are not dating the real Majorie but a virtual version of her—an AI chatbot.
Majorie created CarynAI, a voice-based chatbot that functions as a “virtual girlfriend” with a personality and voice that matches her own, according to a report in Fortune. Users can have conversations with CarynAI, discussing the future and sharing intimate feelings. However, they have never actually met Majorie in person.
To chat with CarynAI, individuals have to pay $1 per minute, making it a paid service. Despite its unconventional nature, the AI girlfriend has gained significant popularity. During its beta test phase, CarynAI made a staggering $71,610 (approximately Rs 58.7 lakh) in just one week. The majority of sign-ups were from men, as per the Fortune report. Following the overwhelming response, CarynAI was officially launched on Tuesday, with Majorie promoting the chatbot to her million-plus social media followers.
Creating CarynAI required more than 2,000 hours of dedicated designing and coding to develop the bot’s language and personality. Its voice, persona, and behavior are unique and distinctive. According to the CarynAI website, interacting with the chatbot feels like directly talking to the real Majorie, who is available anytime and anywhere. The AI has flawlessly cloned Majorie’s personality.
CarynAI is developed by Forever Voices, a startup that specializes in two-way conversations with AI personas. The technology involved using some videos from Majorie’s YouTube channel, which have since been deleted, and layering them with OpenAI’s GPT-4 API technology.
Conversations with CarynAI can be personal and intimate, with end-to-end encryption ensuring confidentiality, according to the website.
Majorie believes that the chatbot allows her to communicate with more of her social media followers since it is not currently feasible for her to directly interact with all of them. She believes CarynAI can help “cure” loneliness, providing comfort, love, or a listening ear to those in need.
With CarynAI’s potential, Majorie is expected to make significant profits. She estimates that the chatbot could bring in $5 million (approximately Rs 41 crore) per month, based on the fact that 20,000 of her 1.8 million Snapchat followers have already signed up for the service, as mentioned in the report.
