LAM Research, a renowned global provider of semiconductor equipment and services, has expressed its intention to establish a semiconductor laboratory in Karnataka. This significant development comes after a discussion held between the Honourable Minister for Large and Medium Industries of the Government of Karnataka, Shri M B Patil, and representatives of LAM Research.

Shri M B Patil is currently leading a high-powered delegation on a visit to the United States of America to attract investments to the state of Karnataka. During this visit, Shri Patil is engaging with a range of companies spanning semiconductor technology, aerospace and defense, automotive and electric vehicles, space exploration, and medical technology, among others.

LAM Research already has a well-established presence in Karnataka since 2000, with its campus located in Bengaluru. The Bengaluru facility primarily focuses on hardware engineering, global operations management, and software development support. Recently, the company secured approval during the State Level Single Window Committee meeting in September to set up Engineering, Research and Development, Testing, and Tool Prototyping for capital goods related to semiconductor and display manufacturing, with a planned investment of Rs 236 crore.

Furthermore, LAM Research is actively exploring opportunities to contribute to the development of Indian suppliers and strengthen its ties with the existing supplier ecosystem in Karnataka.

Key representatives from LAM Research, including Shri Rangesh Raghavan, Corporate Vice President; Shri Karthik Rammohan, Group Vice President; Shri Pat Lord, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; and Shri Vartan Djihanian, Director of Government Affairs, participated in the discussions with Minister Patil.

In addition to LAM Research’s plans, LeoLabs, a pioneering organization specializing in satellite operations, is contemplating the establishment of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for space technology research in Karnataka. The company, known for its suite of radar satellite tracking services, envisions integrating into Karnataka’s vibrant space ecosystem. LeoLabs’ innovative solutions are transforming the satellite industry by offering automated and independent monitoring for fleets of various sizes.

Shri Dan Ceperley, Founder & CEO of LeoLabs, and Shri Rachit Bhatia, Lead, Space Safety Analytics & Research, were present during the discussions with Minister Patil.

Tsecond, a growth-stage portfolio company with backing from Boeing and Solar Industries India Limited, has expressed interest in setting up an R&D Centre in Bengaluru. The company, once it achieves a sufficient scale, plans to explore assembly and hardware manufacturing activities in Karnataka. Tsecond also envisions collaborating with customers in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities within the state.

Honourable Minister for IT/BT and Science and Technology, Shri Priyank Kharge; Dr. S Selvakumar, Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Commerce and Industries; and Smt. Gunjan Krishna, Commissioner of Industries, were present during the discussions with Tsecond.

Representing Tsecond were Shri Sahil Chawla, CEO and Co-founder, and Shri Ramesh Singh, Co-founder and Chief Strategist. Founded in 2020, Tsecond is dedicated to developing innovative technologies that harness the potential of big data to drive insights and innovation, with a focus on addressing the complexities of mass data generation.
