Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has reported a significant expansion of its artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, with its AI pipeline doubling to $1.5 billion in the last quarter. The Indian multinational IT services company is currently executing approximately 270 AI projects across its global operations.

“We are currently executing about 270 AI projects across TCS. Our AI pipeline has doubled in a quarter to $1.5 billion. Our investments in research and innovation continue. In Q1, we applied for 154 patents and were granted 277 patents,” said TCS chief K Krithivasan during the earnings call.

This reflects a significant increase from the $900 million pipeline reported in the previous quarter. The strong traction for AI offerings, particularly in the generative AI segment, indicates substantial growth potential.

Krithivasan said that they are still experimenting with generative and yet to find the tangible business outcome. “For you to get the value out of generative AI, it is not one isolated use case that you can do. You have to get your data pipeline right. Sometimes you may have to get the traditional AI models right as well. It has to work in combination with multiple other technologies,” he said.

In a move to strengthen its AI presence in Europe, TCS has established a Global Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence in Paris. This center will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as brain-machine interfaces, developing empathy in machines, and enhancing AI creativity.

The company has also launched TCS AI WisdomNext™, a platform that aggregates multiple generative AI services into a single interface, enabling organisations to adopt next-generation technologies efficiently and within regulatory frameworks.

“We continue to see strong traction for our AI offerings in the market. Our WisdomNext platform, which helps enterprises adopt AI at scale, has received very strong customer reception. The number of engagements going into production is steadily increasing,” said Krithivasan.

TCS has also strengthened its partnership with Google Cloud, becoming a launch partner for their Generative AI Services Specialisation. This collaboration is expected to further enhance TCS’s AI capabilities and service offerings.

The company’s AI engagements span various industries and applications, including dynamic pricing strategies, product quality improvement, customer experience transformation, and productivity enhancement in business operations, software development, and IT operations.

As TCS continues to expand its AI portfolio and global partnerships, the company is positioning itself as a major player in the rapidly evolving field of artificial intelligence and generative AI technologies.

Collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, TCS has also developed India’s first Quantum Diamond Microchip Imager. This advanced sensing tool is expected to improve precision in semiconductor chip examination, reduce chip failures, and enhance energy efficiency in electronic devices. The project aligns with the Indian government’s National Quantum Mission, which aims to position the country as a global leader in quantum technology.
