Samsung patents smart glasses with a speaker protected by electromagnetic interference

Samsung seems to be working on a new tech for wearable devices, smart glasses to be precise, according to the new patent filed in the US that was spotted by 91mobiles. What’s interesting about the device is that it features a new speaker design that protects it from electromagnetic interference. Here’s everything about Samsung’s newly patented wearable device.

  • The patent (No.: 12,174,389 B2) shows that Samsung’s wearable design is said to reduce speaker noise generated by electromagnetic interfaces from other components.
  • For context, when a power line and speaker are present near to each other, noise is introduced to the speaker due to the magnetic field generated by the powerline. 
  • The Samsung wearable includes a power line that partially overlaps a central area of the coil of the speaker, resulting in an imbalance in the magnetic field applied to the coil is reduced so the interface-related noise generated from the speaker is also reduced.
  • The speaker on the Samsung wearable can be used to play multimedia. There is also a receiver to take incoming calls.

Samsung Smart Glass

  • The patent document says the wearable has a housing, which includes a speaker, battery, power transmission structure and light output modules. The latter is configured to display/output an image.
  • As for the design of the Samsung wearable, it is like any other smart glass with two oval-shaped lenses on the front and dual legs that accommodate the required sensors. 
  • The wearable device will house a touch sensor that will detect touch and a pressure sensor to measure the intensity of the force from touch.

Since this is the patent stage at the moment, there’s no way to tell for sure whether Samsung will implement such a design on a commercial product. Having said that, last month it was reported that Samsung will launch AI-powered XR smart glasses in Q3 2025. The company is said to be planning on rolling out 500,000 units of AI smart glasses in the third quarter of 2025 initially. It is also said the Samsung smart glasses will have a compact design and weigh just 50 grams.

The Samsung smart glass is said to ship with Qualcomm’s first generation AR1 series silicon and will also be integrated with NXP semiconductor for Google’s Gemini-powered AI features. There could be a 12MP Sony IMX681 CMOS image sensor and a 155mAh battery.
