AI startup Runway launched its first mobile app yesterday, offering users access to its video-to-video generative AI model, Gen-1. The app, currently available only on iOS devices, allows users to record a video from their phones and generate an AI video in minutes. It also allows users to transform existing videos by using text prompts, images, or style presets.
Runway’s app offers a range of presets that users can select from, including “Cloudscape,” “Claymation,” “Charcoal Sketch,” “Watercolor Art,” “Paper Origami,” and more. Users can also upload an image or type an idea into the text box to generate their own custom AI videos.
Once users have entered their desired text prompt or uploaded an image, the app generates four previews from which the user can select their preferred option. The final product then takes a few minutes to produce.
While the results of the AI video generator are not perfect and can sometimes look distorted or weird, the app is easy to use and overall fun to mess around with. Content creators may find the app useful in spicing up their social media posts.
One example provided by the app creators involved a clip of Michael Scott from “The Office.” The text prompt entered was “realistic puppet,” resulting in an AI-generated video of Michael Scott’s face on a puppet body.
As AI technology evolves and improves over time, apps like Runway’s Gen-1 could become increasingly valuable to users. Runway’s app is available now on the App Store for iOS devices.
