After the Kingdom, along with other Arab countries, demanded that Netflix remove certain content, a Saudi behavioural consultant referred to Netflix as a “sponsor of homosexuality.”
In an interview with state-run Al Ekhbariya TV, Al Hanouf Al Hokail said that some Netflix children’s shows promote deviant sexual content, as well as content that “contradicts Islamic and societal values.” On Tuesday, a statement from a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) committee led by Saudi Arabia, asked Netflix to remove the violating content and threatened legal action if Netflix did not comply. “It has recently been discovered that the Netflix platform has broadcast some visual materials and content that violates media broadcasting regulations of GCC countries and contradicts Islamic and societal values,” according to the statement.
