Amazon will close Amazon Academy, an online learning platform for high school students that it launched in India last year, the company announced on Thursday.
The retailer says it will phase out the edtech service in the country beginning in August 2023. Those who registered for the current academic batch will receive a full refund, according to the announcement. Amazon officially launched Academy, formerly known as JEE Ready, in early 2018, but had been testing the platform since mid-2019. The Academy sought to assist students in preparing for admission to the nation’s prestigious engineering colleges. The service provided curated learning material, live lectures, mock tests, and comprehensive assessments to assist students in learning and practising math, physics, and chemistry in preparation for the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE), a government-backed engineering entrance examination held in India for admission to various engineering colleges.
