Distinguished Indian tech experts have been appointed to a new global AI advisory panel established by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The High-Level Multistakeholder Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, unveiled by the UN Chief, comprises professionals from government, private sectors, research, civil society, and academia. Its focus is to create a worldwide scientific consensus on AI-related risks and challenges, promote AI’s use for Sustainable Development Goals, and enhance international cooperation on AI governance.
Key members of this advisory body include Amandeep Singh Gill, the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology; Sharad Sharma, co-founder of iSPIRT Foundation; and Nazneen Rajani, Lead Researcher at Hugging Face, India.
Guterres expressed the potential of AI in advancing humanity, from predicting and addressing crises to improving public health and education services. He emphasized, “In our challenging times, AI could power extraordinary progress for humanity.
Amandeep Singh Gill, previously CEO of the International Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence Research Collaborative (I-DAIR) and India’s Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, was appointed as the Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology. Sharad Sharma, known for co-founding Teltier Technologies and his active angel investing, contributes to various advisory roles, including the National Start-up Advisory Council and SEBI’s Financial and Regulatory Technology Committee.
Nazneen Rajani, Research Lead at Hugging Face, specializes in AI Safety and Alignment, with expertise in Large Language Models (LLMs) robustness and evaluation. Her background includes a Doctorate in Computer Science and notable research in Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning interpretability.
