Following in the footsteps of rival Ola, ride-hailing platform Uber announced on Monday (February 20) that it would launch 25,000 electric vehicles (EVs) in the premium category service on its platform in collaboration with Tata Motors.

The company agreed to introduce 25,000 XPRES-T EVs through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tata Motors. Tata Motors will begin delivering EVs to Uber’s fleet partners in stages beginning this month, according to a statement. The EVs will be deployed by Uber in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad. It should be noted that Uber launched an electric cab pilot in some parts of Delhi NCR in October last year, allowing users to book EV cabs for pre-scheduled trips. Uber has committed to 100% of rides on its platform taking place in zero-emission vehicles by 2040.
