Delhi High Court asked the TRAI to expedite discussions with stakeholders on OTT regulation

The Delhi High Court has directed the Telecom and Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to speed up the consultation process with stakeholders for the regulation of over-the-top (OTT) communication services.

According to an ET report, the court has also asked the industry watchdog to recommend a suitable regulatory mechanism for OTTs such as WhatsApp and Telegram. Given the widespread prevalence and use of internet telephony, TRAI would conduct this stakeholders’ consultation as soon as possible: Singh, Justice. World Phone Internet Services, an Internet telephony service provider, has filed a petition for OTT regulation.
