Over 50% of the recognized Indian startups belong to non-metropolitan cities, Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Prakash informed the Parliament on Wednesday.

“DPIIT recognises a total of 72,993 startups as of 30 June 2022, with 34,473 (48 percent) of those startups based in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune, and Ahmedabad. As a result, non-metropolitan startups account for more than half of all recognised startups “”Tier II and III cities,” he said in response to a question in the Lok Sabha about whether 50 percent of recognised startups in the country are from Tier II and III cities. He went on to say that startups and the innovation ecosystem are the growth engines of any country.
